Royal Life Saving Champions AI Aquatic Safety Technology with Lynxight
Royal Life Saving – Australia research has shown that last year there were 8,000 lifeguard rescues at public pools, but tragically 6 drowning deaths and an estimated 18 non-fatal drownings. Every improvement to lifeguard detection and response should be investigated by pool owners and operators and celebrated.
Royal Life Saving continues to champion aquatic safety innovation, recently hosting successful demonstration events showcasing Lynxight’s AI-powered drowning prevention technology. These events highlighted how cutting-edge technology can complement lifeguards in creating safer aquatic environments.
The demo days, held in partnership with Life Saving Victoria, Royal Life Saving New South Wales & Royal Life Saving Queensland, took place at Maribyrnong Aquatic Centre in Victoria, Oran Park Leisure Centre in New South Wales and Gould Adams Aquatic Centre in Queensland.
Attendees, including aquatic facility operators, managers, and safety authorities, witnessed live demonstrations of Lynxight’s capabilities, such as real-time monitoring, incident detection, and predictive analytics.
“This technology empowers lifeguards with tools to respond faster and more effectively,” said Dan Mulvey, General Manager of Lynxight. “We’re grateful to Royal Life Saving for their collaboration and commitment to innovation in aquatic safety.”
Lynxight’s AI system, which uses overhead cameras and specialist software to detect unusual water movement, is already operational at Gould Adams Park Aquatic Centre in Queensland. It provides lifeguards with instant alerts via smartwatches, pinpointing potential incidents and enhancing response times.
RLSSA General Manager – Capability and Industry, RJ Houston, praised the initiative, noting the importance of blending human expertise with next-generation tools. “Supervision in public pools can be challenging, and this technology strengthens lifeguards’ prevention and rescue roles,” he said.
