Every Second Counts: New CPR Video Brings Skills to Your Fingertips

We are excited to share with you a new video which transforms the CPR chart into a dynamic, step-by-step guide. The short, two-minute video goes through each step of CPR, providing clear demonstrations and explanations of how to respond to an unconscious casualty.

In an emergency, prompt action can make all the difference. We hope that this video will provide people with the basic steps to confidently respond in an emergency and potentially save a life.

Using DRS ABCD (Danger, Response, Send for help, Airway, Breathing, CPR, Defibrillation), the video explains how to approach an emergency situation, assess an unconscious casualty, and perform CPR on an adult, child or infant.

Also known as resuscitation, 'mouth-to-mouth', or 'the kiss of life,' CPR refers to the actions taken to keep a casualty alive if their breathing and heartbeat have stopped. This is a skill that really does save lives, and the best part is that it’s not that difficult to learn!

Lifesaving Knowledge for Everyone

At Royal Life Saving Australia, we believe that everyone should have access to lifesaving knowledge, like CPR.

Shaun Jackson, Royal Life Saving Australia National Manager for Training and Workforce Development, said “In an emergency, confidence is key. We designed this video to make CPR as easy to understand as possible, so that anyone can feel prepared to help. This tool can truly make the difference when it matters most.”

Additionally, we’re encouraging everyone to save the video to their phone, so that it is always on hand.

Why CPR Matters: Every second counts

Cardiac emergencies can strike suddenly, and a quick response can make the difference between life and death. With this video, we hope to reinforce the importance of CPR, and that “every second counts.”

Even basic CPR training can make a significant difference in an emergency, transforming bystanders into potential lifesavers. CPR significantly increases chances of survival if administered promptly, and knowing how to perform it effectively can give someone in crisis a fighting chance until professional help arrives.

CPR courses and training

Whilst this video is a useful tool, attending CPR courses remains invaluable for hands-on practice, personalised instructor feedback, and the chance to ask questions that deepen your understanding.

If you are looking for more in-depth training in these vital skills, check out your local Royal Life Saving State and Territory Member Organisations (STMOs) to find out more about CPR and first aid courses, and availability in your local area.

At Royal Life Saving Australia, we are proud to share our expertise in life-saving training through this new CPR video. With decades of experience in training lifesavers, lifeguards, swim teachers and first aiders, we have always worked to empower individuals and communities with the skills and confidence to keep people safe and respond in an emergency.

We hope that this video empowers viewers with the essential knowledge needed to act swiftly and effectively in an emergency. Take two minutes today and learn how to save a life.
