A selection of Australia’s top pool lifesaving athletes are set to take on the world at the 2025 Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS) Commonwealth Lifesaving Championships, held from 10 - 13 July in Swansea, Wales. Today we are excited to announce the outstanding athletes who will be representing Australia.

Two teams have been selected, a National Team and a Development Team, to compete in events such as the manikin carry, line throw and super lifesaver. These events are designed to test competitors in both speed and technique.

Pool lifesaving is one of the three core disciplines that make up the sport of lifesaving internationally. In addition to ocean and beach disciplines, pool lifesaving tests swimming, rescue skills and initiative in a still-water environment.

“Being selected to represent Australia is an incredible achievement,” said Royal Life Saving Australia Chief Executive Officer, Justin Scarr. “It will require athletes to maintain dedication and commitment to peak performance and ambassadorship in the lead up to the Championships. I congratulate all the athletes who earned their place in the squad.”

Royal Life Saving Australia National Manager - Lifesaving Development, Brooke Cherfils, said, “we have a young team this year, reflecting the potential of the Australian Lifesaving Youth Team pathway for Lifesaving World Championship 2026. We are excited to provide this opportunity for them to showcase their skills on the international stage.”

Beyond the competition, these athletes play a vital role in their communities. They are swim teachers, pool lifeguards, and club members who use their training every day to help others stay safe in, on and around the water.

“The skills on display in pool lifesaving competitions are the same as are used in real-life rescue situations at pools, rivers, lakes, and beaches across Australia,” Ms Cherfils said, “Pool lifesaving is more than a sport, it's a training ground for lifesavers who make a real difference in their communities.”

The Commonwealth Lifesaving Championships provide a unique opportunity to showcase the expertise of Australian lifesavers and compete against the Commonwealth’s best, ultimately highlight the importance of lifesaving skills in preventing drownings worldwide.
