Lifesaving Awards
Lifesaving awards continue the journey from learn to swim, and builds on and extends skills, knowledge, fitness and judgement. It challenges participants to keep progressing towards more advanced awards and offers opportunities to get involved in lifesaving at grassroots level, competitive sport or gain further qualifications towards a career.

Royal Life Saving has created several teaching resources to help teach the lifesaving awards, which can be downloaded below. These will guide you on the requirements, background information, skills and knowledge for each award.

In addition, we have developed a Teacher of Lifesaving professional development course for those wishing to taking their lifesaving teaching to the next level.

Additional resources may be available through your local Royal Life Saving State or Territory office.

Swimming and Lifesaving Manual

Otherwise known as the ‘bible’ for all things lifesaving, the Royal Life Saving Swimming and Lifesaving Manual is a comprehensive resources for water safety and lifesaving education.

The content covers general water safety information including dangers and safety actions for a range of environments and activities, the techniques and underpinning knowledge for survival skills, swimming and survival strokes, lifesaving and rescue, resuscitation and emergency care.

Certificates and Medallions

We like to recognise the achievement of completing a lifesaving award as a big thing!

Depending on the award, successful candidates will receive a certificate or medallion.
