Royal Life Saving Society NT Stay Out of Pipes and Drains safety awareness campaign reminds Territorians of the dangers of swimming in pipes and drains this wet season.
Aimed at children and families, the campaign is being run across the Territory where wide, open drains often entice children to swim. It urges parents to talk to their children about water safety, and in particular to stay away from pipes and drains.
The wet season in NT is from November to April and is characterised by higher humidity, monsoonal rains and tropical storms, with an average monthly rainfall of 240mm in the wet season, which can cause our rivers and waterways to become fast-flowing torrents.
