THE PROBLEM
There have been 51 drowning incidents in the Kimberley over the past 10 years.
- 55% occurred in rivers and creeks
- toddlers are over-represented
- males are three times more likely to drown than females
- 35% were Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islanders
- 22% were born overseas
A Local Water Safety Plan was developed for the Kimberley region in 2021 by the team at Royal Life Saving Western Australia.
