Purpose

To determine the approach, management components and resources that is applied to the management of an emergency at an aquatic location.

Emergency Diagrams

An Emergency Diagram that provides emergency and evacuation information shall be displayed in all Aquatic Facilities.

An Emergency Diagrams shall include the following minimum requirements:

  1. The Title ‘Emergency Diagram’
  2. The 'YOU ARE HERE' point
  3. The designated exits for the facility, displayed in green colour
  4. The words and direction of ‘NORTH’
  5. Fire Equipment, displayed in red colour which includes:
    • Hose reels
    • Fire Extinguishers (with additional colours as per Fire Safety Equipment)
    • Fire Blankets
    • Fire indicator panel (FIP), if provided
    • Fire and smoke doors, if applicable
    • Fire Hydrants, if applicable
  6. A description of safety equipment including:
    • Rescue and first aid equipment and facilities (denoted by a white cross on a green background)
    • Hazardous chemicals store
    • Spills Kits
    • Safety Data Sheets
    • Emergency power generators or lighting systems
  7. Emergency Communication and warning systems including:
    • Warden intercommunication points, display in red colour
    • Manual call points (MCP’s) which shall be red in colour
    • Emergency Call Points which shall be white in colour
    • Main controls / panels for the occupant warning equipment
    • Radios for use in Emergency Communication
    • Telephones for use in Emergency Communication
    • Emergency Telephone Numbers (consistent with the Emergency Plan)
Size, Location and Orientation

The number of and location of Emergency Diagrams shall be determined by the Aquatic Safety Committee during planning and should take into consideration:

  • Access and egress routes
  • Other Signage at the Aquatic Facility
  • Evacuation routes and assembly areas

The Emergency Diagrams shall have the correct orientation with regards to the direction of egress and its location to the ‘YOU ARE HERE’ point. This is also the case for emergency assembly areas when they are identified.

The Emergency Diagrams should be positioned within a zone at a height not less than 1200mm and not more than 1600mm above the surface of the floor.

The Emergency Diagrams shall be a minimum of A3 (297mm x 420mm) with a pictorial representation of the floor area a minimum of 300mm x 200mm.
