Purpose

To establish guidance for the design of emergency exit signs in aquatic facilities.

Description

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is anything used or worn by a person to minimise risk to the person’s health or safety and includes a wide range of clothing and safety equipment. PPE includes boots, face masks, hard hats, ear plugs, respirators, gloves, safety harnesses and high visibility clothing.

The PPE signage should also be placed where it allows a person to put on and make use of the PPE before coming into contact with the hazard (i.e. Hazardous Chemicals) that the PPE is designed to protect them against.

PPE signage should be displayed, promoting the use of PPE in accordance with AS 1319 – 1994 Safety Signs for the Occupational Environment and the following explanations for an aquatic facility

For use when eye protection must be worn. This should be displayed in Pool Plant Rooms and First Aid Rooms.

For use when a respirator must be worn. This should be displayed in Pool Plant Rooms.

For use when hearing protection must be worn. This may be displayed in Pool Plant Rooms.

For use when face protection must be worn. This may be displayed in Pool Plant Rooms and First Aid Rooms.

For use when hand protection must be worn. This should be displayed in Pool Plant Rooms and First Aid Rooms.

For use when foot protection must be worn. This should be displayed in Pool Plant Rooms.

For use when protective clothing must be worn. This may be displayed in Pool Plant Rooms.

For use when head protection must be worn. This is not common in Aquatic Facilities however may be applicable during construction or renovations.
