Purpose

To establish guidance for the design of signs in and around spa pools.

Depth Markings

Spa pools should have their depths marked in accordance with the following:

  1. Depth markings should be clear and legible and positioned within 450 mm of the water edge.
  2. Depth markings should be spaced at intervals of not greater than 7.5 m and should be uniformly located around the perimeter of the spa pool.
  3. There should be not less than two depth markings on any spa pool.

Spa Pool Information

Signage may be provided to identify entry and exit points.

Suppliers of spa pools should provide the following notices for use in connection with the spa pool:

  1. A sign which should be prominently displayed in the immediate vicinity of the spa pool, stating the location of the nearest telephone and stating which emergency phone numbers are displayed at that location.

    NOTE: The emergency phone numbers displayed at the telephone location should include those of the nearest ambulance service, hospital, physician and police or rescue service.
  2. A durable resuscitation instruction chart which should be prominently displayed in the immediate vicinity of the spa pool.
  3. The emergency stop switch which should be clearly and legibly labelled to indicate its purpose.
  4. A cautionary sign, which should be displayed in a prominent location adjacent to the entrance to the spa pool.

Spa Pool Safety Rules

This spa pool is a heated water environment and if you are concerned that it may adversely affect you it is your responsibility to seek medical advice.

NEVER PUT HEAD UNDER WATER.

Children under 10 years should be under the active supervision of a person 16 years or older whilst in spa pool area.

Do not use the spa pool area while under the influence of drugs or alcohol (certain medications may produce adverse effects).

It is safer not to use the spa pool alone.

It is recommended that you use the spa pool for no longer than 15 minutes at a time.

Spa Pool Depth

In Spa Pool - 1.2m deep or less - the words shallow water and the Shallow Water Sign and the Australian Standard “No Diving” signs as well as the words NO DIVING should be displayed.
