Purpose

To establish guidance for the design of emergency signs in aquatic facilities.

Emergency Equipment

Displaying well-recognised, standardised first aid signs will assist in easily locating first aid equipment and facilities. First aid signs may be constructed to suit individual requirements but should comply with AS 1319: 1994 – Safety Signs for the Occupational Environment.

At a minimum this should include signs where the following items are located in an Aquatic Facility:

  • First Aid Kits
  • Defibrillators
  • Rescue Equipment
  • Oxygen Equipment
  • Spinal Equipment
  • Emergency Telephones
  • First Aid Room / station
  • Emergency Eye Wash
  • Emergency Safety Showers
  • Spill Kits
  • Emergency Assembly Points
  • Safety Data Sheets
  • Emergency Stops

Emergency Signs

For use when describing the location of First Aid Kits, First Aid Stations and First Aid Rooms.

For use when describing the location of Defibrillators, Oxygen Equipment, Spinal Equipment.

For use when describing the location or direction to emergency equipment (up/ down / left / right).

For use when describing the location or direction to a telephone which may be used for an emergency.

For use when describing the location of water life-saving equipment such as Rescue Tubes, Rope, Flotation Aids (for the purpose of rescue).

For use when describing the location of an emergency eye wash facility. It is recommended that the minimum wash time is also on the sign as this is often underestimated.

For use when describing the location of an emergency safety shower facility where there is risk of exposure to hazardous chemicals resulting in skin absorption or contamination from infectious substances.

For use when describing the location of an emergency stop button such as that in a wave pool.

For use when describing the location of Safety Data Sheets.

For use when describing the location of an Emergency Spill Kit.
