Facility Design
This guideline provides practical guidance on the safe design of structures built around swimming pools.

Scope

This Guideline provides practical guidance for owners or operators of aquatic facilities on the safe design of structures built around swimming pools at an aquatic facility.

This Guideline is not intended to apply retrospectively to facilities built prior to the publication of the Guidelines. It is intended however to apply to upgrades, redevelopments, maintenance and/or new developments so as to enhance and promote safe design in the future.

This National Industry Guideline applies to all Hotels, Motels, Camping and Caravan Grounds, Commercial and Public Aquatic Facilities, Learn to Swim Schools, and Health and Education Facilities, who own or manage an aquatic facility for the purpose of swimming or recreating.

These Guidelines have been developed by Royal Life Saving Society Australia under the guidance of the National Aquatic Industry Safety Committee for adoption by the Commonwealth, State and Territory and Local Governments and owners and operators of facilities with swimming pools and other related aquatic environments.

This Guideline must be read in conjunction with other GSPO sections (as shown below) and the relevant sections of the Building Code of Australia and related state/territory building legislation and regulations.
