Purpose

To ensure the ongoing effectiveness and sustained commitment to risk management by the owner or operator of an aquatic facility.

Description

The owner or operator of an aquatic facility should include a risk management policy relevant to the aquatic facility as part of its framework.

The risk management policy should clearly state and address the following:

  1. The organisations commitment to risk management at the aquatic facility
  2. Management structure, accountabilities and responsibilities for managing risk at the aquatic facility
  3. The definitions/language used throughout the risk management framework
  4. The organisational commitment to providing what available resources to assist those who are responsible and accountable for managing risk
  5. The way in which risk management objectives are aligned to the objectives of the owner or operators organisations
  6. The way in which conflicts within the risk management framework for the aquatic facility are dealt with
  7. The way in which risk management performance will be measured and reported
  8. How training needs for Risk Management will be analysed, planned and implemented including how workers receive an induction into the risk management framework pertaining to their key areas of responsibility on commencing employment
  9. The organisations risk appetite (the amount and type of risk that an organisation is willing to take in order to meet their strategic objectives)
  10. The risk criteria used to evaluate the significance of risk at the aquatic facility including the organisations appetite and tolerance for risk
  11. The obligation to review and continually improve the risk management framework and its components periodically and following a major accident event
  12. How significant change to the internal and external context will be managed
