To provide guidance to owners or operators of aquatic facilities and/or aquatic programs on the initial training and entry qualifications appropriate for those employed (voluntary or paid) who may be required to administer oxygen.

Note: All aquatic facilities should provide oxygen resuscitation equipment in accordance Work Health Safety Regulations and the Guidelines for Safe Pool Operations – Safety Equipment

Responsibilities

Owners or operators of aquatic facilities and/or aquatic programs should ensure that there are trained staff, with access to the appropriate equipment,  available to deliver prompt oxygen therapy or oxygen supplemented resuscitation to a casualty.

Staff providing oxygen therapy or oxygen supplemented resuscitation at aquatic facilities should administer oxygen in a manner consistent with their skills and training.

Initial qualifications

To perform the duties of an Aquatic Program Instructor an individual should hold:

  1. The current nationally recognised Pool Lifeguard skill set, or most recent superseded version, or successive replacement(s), regardless of whether deemed equivalent or non-equivalent; or,
