FEATURES OF INLAND WATERWAYS
Within inland waterways, there may exist built structures that contribute to how the waterway behaves.
Dam (Commercial)
A built structure of concrete, earth, etc. creating and enclosed body of water. A dam also refers to the impounded water behind the structure (see Types of Inland Waterways).
Dam (Farm)
A reservoir created by a barrier of concrete, earth, etc. found usually on rural property and may be used for domestic water supply, or farm use around the home environment. The body of water may vary in size and depth.
Dam can also refer to the barrier creating the reservoir (see Features of Inland Waterways).
Spillway
A channel that carriers away surplus water, as from a dam.
Storm Water Drain
A drain is a built structure that facilitates the movement of storm water or other wastewater from one location to another. Includes stormwater, table drain, culvert (not on a farm) and other types of drains. Generally open to the air/sky but can be covered.
Waterfall
A cascade of falling water where there is a vertical or almost vertical step in the river.
Weir
A low dam that is built across a river to raise the water level, divert the water, or controls its flow.
